Introduction
Welcome to the home of the Sew Africa Project, an initiative aiming to empower African fashion designers by providing them with advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software and in some cases, funding. The project believes in the power of technology to transform businesses especially in the Fashion Industy and aims to make advanced design tools accessible to talented designers across Africa.
The Sew Africa Project distributes full version PatternMaker CAD software, developed by PatternMakerUSA, to aspiring and established designers. There have been several recipients of the sew in African Grant over the years. The recipients come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique perspectives to the world of fashion. In the past year (2023), nine talented designers were supported by the project, providing them with the tools to streamline their design process, develop intricate patterns, and expand their creative horizons.
Supporters of the Sew in Africa project can participate through partnerships, sponsorships, or spreading the word about the project.
Personalized Connection and Donations
We recognize that our donors are key partners in the work we are doing. We want them to experience the joy and satisfaction of seeing a grantee start a business venture that was made possible by their initial support.
For this reason, we have set up our donation structure to establish a personal connection between donors and recipients. The amount we are initially fundraising is small – enough to cover the cost of a copy of Patternmaker Software and some seed money to start the business. Donors know exactly who they are supporting. They can witness the real-life impact of their contributions. They can follow the entrepreneurial journey of the individuals they support – and enjoy their fabulous patterns!
Real-Time Monitoring and Impact Measurement
We believe that transparency and accountability are critical for our program. In fact, one of our board members is a former humanitarian aid auditor!
As a matter of policy, 100% of these contributions will be used directly for our pattern-making participants.
We have also set up the following policies to ensure that all donations are used properly:
Conclusion
We are very excited about Sew in Africa and are confident that you will be too! We want you to partner with us in helping enterprising Africans reach their full capabilities to participate in modern fashion, with all the tools now available.
By leveraging technology, personal connections, and real-time monitoring, we aim to create a sustainable model that empowers African fashion designers and showcases the tangible impact of every donation.
Together, let us sew the fabric of change and opportunity in the vibrant tapestry of African fashion.
